WALTER WAS FOUND!

But it wasn't the team of Where's Walter?, but the Insta-Gators.  Way to Johnny JR. on this great catch on Saturday,  August 4th. (pictured above 19incher).  They also boated a 25.5 inch northern.  A little cold front brought some clouds, a little rain, and the fishing was okay from what the teams reported.  The Fishing Fanatics found some bass, and rumor has it, one of the biggest bass came from under a bridge!  (At least that is what one of the kids told me when he was fishing with me the other night!)  The Big Belly Bass made it out and finally Coach Steve was able to fish with one of his own.  He has been great at getting the neighborhood out on the lake.  Team Orono ditched Lake Minnetonka for a Northwest Ontario outing up on Rowan Lake with Neislen's Fly-In...hoping they have some luck up there.  Tuesday night was the night of the carp....the Crushers got spooled at the dock by a monster, but the Funny Sunnies could not get them to eat there temptations.  Plenty of brusiers where spotted in the chum line.  Where's Walter? ended up making it out and again brought a good boatful of panfish slayers!  We had a new team, Dances With Fishes, show up and fish.  They did a great job of finding some bass, but wouldn't give up there secrets.
  • The forcast is looking great for Saturday and hope to see as many of you as possible out on the water.
  • Make sure to check out the scoring and if you did get out and fish to either email me or enter your score online!
  • Carp Fishing...if you are interested let me know, we would be willing to give it another shot.

July 24, 2012 Results  Panfish, Panfish, Panfish!

The Big Belly Bass, Fishing Fanatics, Where's Walter?, Funny Sunnies, The Crushers, and the Insta-Gators all made it out fishing on Tuesday night. The sunny bite is on. They are everywhere and teams capitalized on the bite to earn their 50 point maximum. Conditions seemed favorable as reports were coming in from pre-fishing that the bass bite was pretty solid, but something must have changed because the teams that targeted them only ended up catching a few. Big fish for the night was a 15 inch bass, which was a surprise to all teams with no northerns being caught. That is why fishing is so great, you never know what is going to happen when it is league night. It can change fast. Thanks to everybody who is showing up to fish so far. It was also great to see some "non-fishing" boats show up with a boat load of kids and fishing rods in hand. There are plenty of areas to "drift" and drop a line in on Minnetonka. Looking forward to Saturday and the weather forecast looks very promising.

Saturday July 21, 2012  Rain + Lightning + Thunder = not much fishing!

Thunder and lightning greeted most of the teams as they started to launch their boats or take to the docks on Saturday morning!  A few teams waited out the storms and rain to get some fishing in.  Team Orono, Maximus Fishes, and Levi Bassmaster Roach all made their first showing and were rewarded with some nice catches of bass and northerns!  The Insta-Gators made it out as well, getting some points for showing up fish, way to go.    But they could not fend off the seasoned Fishing Fanatics squad, which did some trash talking of "bring it" after the first night. They backed it up with an individual 60 point plus tally.  This was a new record, and after some discussion with the coaches, we agreed to implement a maximum number of panfish points, which is now 50 per angler per event.  Due to the weather we didn't get many pictures, if you have some email them to fishtonka@gmail.com!

Opening Night!  July 17, 2012  Click to View the Results

What a great first night for the Lake Minnetonka Youth Fishing League!  We had seven boats filled with 17 kids and lots of fish caught.  The wind picked up right as the teams headed out to fish, combined with the boat traffic it made for some tough boat control out on the main lake.  Teams adapted, Where's Walter? tucked into a quiet bay and loaded up on the sunnies which made lots of kids happy and kept their coaches busy taking off fish.  The Insta-Gators battled the wind and were rewarded with some dandy largemouth's, including a bonus point 18.5 incher.  The Michigan Musky Maulers (yep that's right they flew in from Michigan for the opener, haven't heard if they are making it back for another event yet, but it's rumored they may stay and fish on Sat.) traded in their muskie rods for sunnies and a couple nice northerns, including a 24 incher.  The Crushers caught six different species on a secret bait call the "Crusher".  The Big Belly Bass were very secretive and put some good bass in the boat as well.  Team Nick also put some good bass in the boat.  The Fishing Fanatics didn't read the score sheet until Wednesday, so they responded with a "Game On" quote for this Sat. morning.   They also chased bass and caught a some good ones!
