Points are assigned to commonly caught MN fish species
Points are scaled to address the difficulty to catch each specie
Bonus points are available for trophy fish catches. Trophies are determined by measuring the fish to the nearest half inch
A “fishing Score” will be determined by a formula that calculates a total score that is based the number of fish caught, and the time the anglers fished
Anglers may only earn points for the number of fish allowed in the daily possession limited set by the MN DNR for any given specie of fish. For example, an angler who catches 50 sunfish, may only earn 20 points + any bonus trophy points (if he/she catches 10+inch sunfish) for those fish caught.
Team scores are calculated by taking each anglers total score and dividing it by the number of anglers on a team
Minnesota Ice Fishing Points:
Pan fish (including perch, rock bass, crappies, bluegills, pumpkinseeds, bullheads) - 1 point
Bass (large and smallmouth) – 3 points.
Northern Pike – 5 points
Walleye – 8 points
Rough Fish (ciscos, tullibees, whitefish, etc) – 2 points
Lake Trout – 15 points
Rainbow Trout – 3 points
Bonus Points for Trophy Catches:
10 points for a fish measured to the nearest half-inch
Sunfish, bluegill 10+in
Bass 20+in
Northern 35+in
Walleye 30+in
Lake Trout 30+in
Rainbow Trout – 15+in
Example of calculating score:
Angler catches 4 bass (2 20inchers) = 12 + 10+10, 20 sunfish = 20 pts, 3 northerns= 15 pts, 4 walleyes = 32 pts
Fishes for 6 hours
22 20 15 32 = 89/6= 14.8 Angler Score
